Have you found an animal that you believe needs help? This page is designed to help you determine if the animal you have found needs assistance from a wildlife rehabilitator. If you ever have any doubt, reach out to a licensed rehabilitator for advice.
Babies found alone are not always orphaned. Certain species will leave their young alone for periods of time while the mother goes out to forage. Additionally, many species can be reunited with their mother. Wild animals should be raised by their mothers whenever possible!
Injured wildlife often requires assistance from a veterinarian or a licensed rehabilitator. Animals with severe and immediate injuries should go to a wildlife center (Tufts, New England Wildlife Center, or Cape Wildlife) or any veterinarian that is willing to assess and/or humanely euthanize the animal if it is suffering and beyond rehabilitation.
Keep Wild primarily cares for Eastern cottontails, Virginia opossums, squirrels, and reptiles/amphibians. We occasionally take other species on a case-by-case basis, so please reach out to see if we are able to directly help or can assist in finding proper placement for an animal.
